Natalie McDonagh. How to live with a broken heart, 2021. Fabric, paper, cotton thread.
This hand stitched apron is a material meditation on my emotional-psychological responses to the escalating climate crisis and the stupendous summer of fires 2019-2020. It is a garment made by and for the artist being (an) Attendant in/of/to the world.
The body is a collage of fabrics dyed and printed using local plant material. The straps are old, worn, found fabric. Overlaid is a Dada poem constructed from a book of Greta Thunberg’s speeches cut into single lines of text, randomly reassembled, making a nonsense of her pleas to humanity to wake up and take action.
